Trouble shooting: Firewall blocking Docker file sharing on 445 port & fabric-orderer + cli not found

Recreate Issue:

  • Set up local Hyperledger Fabric dev environment
  • Install “fabric-sample” > “first-network”
  • $ ./ -m generate
  • $ ./ -m up
  • Error: “A firewall is blocking file Sharing between Windows and the containers.”
  • Error (cont.): “manifest for hyperledger/fabric-orderer:latest not found”
  • Error (cont.): “Error response from daemon: No such container: cli.”

3. Solution (Windows 10):

  • Instead dealing with the Firewall and opening up port 445 (the Windows host) from (the virtual machine), it’s better to just “Enable Developers mode” Windows
  • Start > Type in “Use developer features” (under system settings)
  • Enable “Developers mode”
“Developers mode” Enabled
  • Start > Type in “Turn Windows feature on or off” (Control panel)
  • Enable Windows Subsystem for Linux in Windows Features
“Windows Subsystem for Linux” Enabled
  • Click “OK” > Restart computer
  • Your bash programs should now work, including cli.
  • I was able to run “fabric-sample” > “first-network”, without having to enable the “Expose daemon on tcp://localhost:2375 without TLS” settings in Docker
